Pathways Hockey Development

Spring hockey fills a schedule. Pathways builds a player.

Three leagues, one progression, for AAA players from 2019 birth years up to U18. Players learn the game in the classroom, then execute it on the ice in a controlled environment, using ReactForge Vantage — our read-and-react and decision-making training — to see the game faster on the road to college hockey.

The problem with spring

Most off-season hockey is random games. Random games develop no one.

Spring and summer should be where a player makes the biggest jump of the year. Instead most of it is pickup games with no plan, no teaching, and no way to know whether anyone actually got better.

Pathways is built the other way. Players get a concept in the classroom, then take it onto the ice and execute it inside a real, controlled league. Safe environment, real games, deliberate development.

Spring should be preparation for the season ahead, not just a stack of games to get through. We chase quality over quantity — fewer, better reps that actually make a player ready for next year.

01

Learn it

Concepts, reads, and decisions taught in the classroom before players touch the ice.

02

Apply it

Real games in a controlled league, built so players execute what they were just taught.

03

Measure it

Decision-making and pace are tracked, so growth is something you can see, not guess at.

A typical spring league
  • Mostly tournaments and games.
  • Rosters thrown together, no standard to hold.
  • No teaching between games. Play, go home, repeat.
  • Nothing measured, so nobody can say whether a player improved.
  • More ice time, and that is the whole offer.
Pathways
  • Games, ReactForge Vantage read-and-react training, video, and homework in one program.
  • AAA calibre players, placed by age group and level.
  • Every week: a game, a session at the ReactForge facility, and film to work through.
  • Decisions and pace are tracked, so progress is something you can see.
  • More ice time is the least of it.

We do not just give players more ice time. We change how they see the game.

The pathway

One progression. Bottom to top.

Three leagues that stack into a single development path, each one preparing a player for the next, all of it pointing at the college level.

Pathways is built for AAA players looking to further their development. Every level below is AAA calibre, so find your son or daughter's age group and you will know exactly where they fit.

Each week, players compete in a league game, then come into the ReactForge facility for a dedicated ReactForge Vantage session — off-ice read-and-react and video work. Between sessions they work through structured homework on our digital platform. The whole loop is built to teach players to read the game faster, anticipate pressure, and make better decisions with the puck.

Who it is built for
  • U13 to U15 players in AA or AAA who are development-minded.
  • Players who want a route toward the Collegiate Conference League without jumping straight to that level.
  • Players who want to be coached on how they think, not just how they skate.
What is included
  • One game per week in the PPDL league.
  • One ReactForge Vantage read-and-react and video session per week at the ReactForge facility.
  • Weekly video homework to build game awareness and decision-making.
  • Uniform supplied:
    • Game jersey
    • Game socks
The weekly commitment
  • Game: about 1.5 hours.
  • ReactForge Vantage session (read-and-react and film): about 1.5 hours.
  • Homework at home: 30 minutes.

Optional on-ice practices are available as add-ons for teams that want extra ice.

Each week, athletes compete in a high-intensity game and complete video homework built around real OHL, NCAA, and NHL situations. They then come into the ReactForge facility for a ReactForge Vantage session: guided film breakdown and read-and-react decision-making training that translates directly back to game play.

Who it is built for
  • U16 to U18 players who are serious about NCAA, Junior, or OHL opportunities.
  • Players already in rep or elite hockey who want more than another team practice.
  • Top-half-of-the-roster players ready to be pushed by players at their own level.
What is included
  • One game per week, full game format on prime ice.
  • One ReactForge Vantage read-and-react and video session per week at the ReactForge facility.
  • Structured video homework using real game clips from the OHL, NCAA, and NHL, delivered through our digital platform.

ReactForge Vantage

Read and react, trained like any other skill.

ReactForge Vantage is our read-and-react and decision-making program. In plain terms: we train players to read a play and react to it faster, and to make the right decision with the puck under pressure — the split-second stuff that separates players at the next level.

Most people call this the mental side of the game and leave it there. We treat it as a trainable skill. Players are taught a read, put in situations that force them to use it, then given feedback that sharpens it — and that loop is what moves a player forward.

LEARN

In the classroom

Concepts, reads, and decisions taught with intent before any rep on the ice.

APPLY

In the league

Real, controlled games built for development first, where players execute what they learned.

ADAPT

Through feedback

Decisions and pace are measured, then adjusted, so every rep moves a player closer to the next level.

The ReactForge off-ice training floor: a turf surface marked with zones and read-and-react boxes, with screens and cameras set up around it.
The off-ice component

Where the reads are built before they hit the ice.

This is our 12,000 sq. ft. ReactForge facility. We use it to simulate all three zones in a controlled environment, working players through real scenarios off the ice so they are prepared for what happens once they step onto it.

We slow the game down, drill the read, then speed it back up, so decisions that used to take a beat too long start happening on instinct. That is the work that shows up in the video sessions and, a week later, in games.

What changes

What a player actually walks away with.

On the ice

  • Faster reads under pressure.
  • Better puck management and support decisions.
  • More consistent shifts, instead of a good game here and there.

How they think

  • Stronger pattern recognition.
  • Better anticipation and scanning habits.
  • More confidence with the puck.

For parents

  • A structured plan instead of a schedule of random spring games.
  • Clear communication through the season.
  • Progress you can actually see: testing, clips, and feedback.

Pathway guidance

Wendy Martin

A real estate professional, hockey mom, and longtime volunteer within the hockey community, Wendy brings firsthand experience navigating the pathway to elite hockey. Having seen the challenges players and families face when making critical decisions about their development and next steps, she helped create this program to provide clarity, direction, and informed guidance.

The goal is simple: help elite players identify the right pathway, avoid unnecessary detours, and maximize their opportunities to reach the next level.

How it works

Four steps, start to finish.

The same path into both leagues. Spots are limited and placement is not automatic, so the earlier a player applies the better.

STEP 01

Apply

Send us your player's details and current team. It takes a couple of minutes and puts them in front of our staff.

STEP 02

Evaluation and placement

We review every application and place players into the right league and age group. Not every applicant is guaranteed a spot.

STEP 03

The weekly rhythm

Game, then a ReactForge Vantage read-and-react and video session at the facility, then homework through our platform. Every week, for eight weeks.

STEP 04

Progress and feedback

Decisions and pace are tracked through the block, and players and parents get clips, testing, and direct feedback on what moved.

Everything here points to one place. The next level.

College hockey is the goal. Pathways is how players get there, one deliberate step at a time, in a program that treats the off-season like it matters.

Common questions

Before you ask.

What does my player actually commit to each week?

One game, one ReactForge Vantage read-and-react and video session at the ReactForge facility, and homework through our digital platform. In the Collegiate Conference League that is roughly two hours of game, an hour and a half of read-and-react and film work, and 30 to 45 minutes of homework. The PPDL runs slightly lighter.

The block runs eight weeks.

Can my player do this alongside their regular spring or summer team?

That is exactly how the program is built. One game and one session a week is a deliberate load, designed to add development to a player's week rather than take over their schedule.

What is included in the fee?

The Collegiate Conference League is $1,095 CAD per player and the PPDL is $949 CAD per player, each for the full eight-week block. That covers the weekly game, the weekly ReactForge Vantage session, the homework platform, and a game jersey and socks.

Additional on-ice practices and extra apparel are optional add-ons and are not included in the base fee.

Is every player who applies accepted?

No. Spots are limited and every application is reviewed before placement. We would rather put a player in the right group than fill a roster.

My player is not sure which league they fit into.

Go by age. The Pathways Alliance runs spring teams for 2016 through 2019 birth years, the PPDL covers U13 through U15, and the Collegiate Conference League covers U16 through U18. If your player sits on a boundary, get in touch and we will place them.
